Jinshi meant that he could move her from the servants’ quarters to a room beside his own bedroom.
Maomao entered the outer court under the story that Jinshi had brought a courtesan from the Verdigris House, so objectively she looked like a woman brought in as his mistress.
Moving her room would have made that implication real, lol.
He also encouraged her to take the court-lady examination so she could move around the outer court. If Maomao became an official court lady, Jinshi, as her superior, could take her to more places because she would have access to a wider area.

The new opening seems understated at first, but it becomes addictive after a few listens. I have replayed it many times since yesterday.
The opening feels like Jinshi addressing Maomao, while the ending feels like Maomao addressing Jinshi. They seem paired and give the impression that the story may reach a happy ending.

Including the new opening and ending, the first cour almost feels like a prologue.

水蓮の人はマクロスやダンバインから出てる人なのか
旧るろ剣の恵さんが世代的に1番しっくりくるが

The new opening and ending are impressive, but so is the new cast.
Suiren’s actress has performed in works as far back as Macross and Dunbine. For my generation, Megumi from the original Rurouni Kenshin is the role that comes to mind.
I did not recognize Lakan’s actor and wondered whether he mainly worked on stage, but he has long specialized in dubbing and has performed anime roles since the era of Saiyuki.
And Kaori Nazuka’s ability needs no explanation.
