今回は最初の剣術と最後の舞踊以外は動きの少ない回だったな
動かさなきゃいけないような話じゃなかったけど
嵐の前の静けさみたいな感じなのかな
Aside from the sword practice at the beginning and the dancing at the end, this episode did not have much movement.
It was not really a story that needed a lot of animation, though.
Maybe it was the calm before the storm.

ロリはもう帝以外の男にないびいちゃっててヤベー感じするし次女も呆れてたが
The four leading consorts cover quite a range:
・the classic heroine type
・the glamorous, voluptuous type
・the very young type
・the cool, intellectual type
That variety made me laugh.
The youngest one already seems taken with a man other than the Emperor, which looks risky, and even her lady-in-waiting seemed exasperated.

サクサク進むけど演出的に地味なんよね
説明セリフは極力抑えてはいるけどほぼセリフのみで進行するので
エピソード消化優先の脚本とも相まってアニメとしては地味な印象がぬぐえない
The story moves quickly, but the direction feels restrained.
It keeps explanatory dialogue to a minimum, yet most of the progression still comes through conversation.
Combined with a script focused on moving through the material, it leaves a rather subdued impression as animation.

デチューンか！5話を見てさよなら絶望先生を思い出しました
あまりにも他者より優れていると悪目立ちして反感や嫉妬を買うのでわざと劣るように加工して釣り合いを取る
そういう発想があるのは知ってはいましたがこんな時代からあったとは！
猫猫の場合読み書きができ毒や薬の知識があることもデチューンして隠してましたしこの世に絶望しひたすら隠れて毒研究してたいというマッドサイエンティスト魂を感じます
So she was deliberately “detuning” herself! Episode 5 reminded me of Sayonara, Zetsubou-Sensei.
If someone stands too far above everyone else, they attract resentment and jealousy, so they deliberately make themselves seem less capable to restore the balance.
I knew of that idea, but I did not realize it applied in a setting like this.
Maomao also hid her literacy and her knowledge of poisons and medicine. It gives her the spirit of a mad scientist who has given up on society and only wants to stay hidden while researching poisons.
